Questions:
Will upgrading the Google Analytics Source extension for GA4 alone suffice,
or do we need to modify the SSIS packages as well?
Is there an automatic synchronization of GA3 metrics to GA4,
Just upgrading the Google Analytics Source extension will work
without modifying the SSIS packagages?
Do we need to modify the older GA3 configured SSIS Packages in order
to make it compatible with GA4?
Answer:
Yes, that's correct. You will need to manually configure Google Analytics for the new GA4.
Just upgrading the PowerPack will not be sufficient. For the new GA4, you will need to create/modify a google analytics connection and select the desired new GA4 profile and metrics as well.
Depending on the GA3/GA4 version selected on the Connection UI, the Browse button will display different dimensions and metrics.
GA3 is prefixed with ga:xxxx and in GA4 it is without xxxx.
We have mapped some, but not everything from the old GA3 supported in GA4.
So some map work e.g. ga:date => date already working
When the map is not found, an error will be triggered.
Within the Google Analytics Connection, you will find the GA4/GA3 Property Type. You will need to select this and generate a new token.
Once you have manually configured Google Analytics for GA3/GA4, you will need to select the Profile ID and Metrics on the user interface.
